My brother and I were christened in the Crypt of St Stephens . The only piece left of the beautiful building after WW2 plus the parsonage? This was 70 odd yrs ago. Both our grandparents lived in Bow and this was their church. I remember, just, going to services in the crypt with my mother and nan.
When we were children my sister and I used to go to church there in the crypt . We used to go with our parents , Marjorie ( nee Knowles ) and Douglas Burbidge. My parents were married in Bow church and my grandfather owned Sheridan Knowles , picture framers and cabinet makers right opposite Bow church .
I don’t know how we came to go to St. Stephens to church , in our camel coats and green velour hats !
my great great grandfather I am told made the alter screen. John. Mattias Wright.
it looked to be a beautiful church. My uncle was in the church choir!

My father was baptised in this Church in 1910. He lived in Rosebank Road.
Had absolutely no idea a church was ever here. Where exactly was it located?
Tredegar Road between Ordell Road and Mostyn Road. Demolished after the second world war.
